Iran proposes it is not ready to export uranium


An Iranian representative says his country desires to buy fuel for its Tehran research reactor, the most recent indication that Iran is not willing to ship most of its enriched uranium out of the country.
Ali Asghar Soltanieh says that, Iran wants to buy the fuel and is ready for new talks to work out details.
If that means Iran is not ready to export most of its enriched uranium supply for it to be turned into the fuel, he again supposed his country wants to buy ready-made fuel.
His comments were a strong indication that Iran will not recognize the international offer that would have exposed Iran of most of its enriched stock.
If Iran exports most of its enriched uranium, its capability to make the center of a nuclear warhead would be postponed.

Iran will enhance high uranium if third-party deals fail

Iran said that it will enrich uranium, the most divisive part of its atomic programme, to the 20 percent clarity required for a research reactor in Tehran if third-party deals fail.
"We will write a letter and pronounce to the agency (International Atomic Energy Agency) that Iran will act frankly to supply the fuel for the Tehran reactor," ISNA news agency quoted Ali Shirzadian as saying when asked what would happen if proposed third-party deals fail.
Officials from Iran, the United States, Russia, France and the IAEA are to assemble in Vienna on October 19 , 2009 to work out the modalities for deals under which Tehran has said, it is organized to buy 20 percent pure uranium from abroad.
"Iran completely owns the enrichment technology and hence it will sit at the discussing table with influence," Shirzadian said, adding that Tehran desires to "buy the fuel for the Tehran reactor in mass as it is more economical."
He also supposed that the reactor needs about 200 kilograms of 20 percent pure uranium to operate, but did not state how long that would last.
During the latest talks in Geneva between Tehran and six major world powers, Iran granted to buy the superior grade uranium required from overseas suppliers.
Uranium enrichment lies at the compassion of Western concerns about the Iranian nuclear programme. The susceptible process can produce fuel for national nuclear reactors or, in greatly extended form, the fissile core of an atomic bomb.

Iran Would Agree To IAEA For Checking New Uranium Plant


Iran said it would permit UN inspectors into its newly disclosed uranium enrichment plant, as US President Barack Obama lead a global objection against Tehran for building the facility.

“When the president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said, we have no trouble for inspection within the frame of the agency (International Atomic Energy Agency) regulations,” said by Ali Akbar Salehi, Iran’s atomic energy chief.

The new plant was 100 kilometres (60 miles) away from Tehran on the road to the holy city of Qom, the first official exposé of its location and “more informations will be given about the site shortly to the Iranian people.”

The IAEA said Tehran wrote to the agency on September 21 releasing that it is building a new uranium enrichment facility.

Salehi specified that Iran would put radioactive materials inside the new capability around a year from now.

According to IAEA standards, Iran had to announce the subsistence of the plant with “180 days before putting radioactive materials inside it.”

The announcement of the new facility came before an October 1 meeting in Geneva between Iran and six world powers to converse Tehran’s disputed atomic programme. Salehi said the plant was a “guarantee” Tehran’s nuclear work would continue.

“Considering the pressure (to existing nuclear sites), our organisation determined to do what is necessary to preserve and continue our nuclear activities.”

“So we decided to build new equipments which will guarantee the maintenance of our nuclear activities which will never stop at any cost.”

Audit refers to progress on nuclear security

A government audit appealed by Representative John Tierney finish off that a US program to progress security at nuclear research reactors around the world has made significant improvement, but that serious security weaknesses remain that make the sites vulnerable to theft by terrorists.
The National Nuclear Security Administration, an arm of the Department of Energy, has provided resistant vaults, action sensors, security cameras, and centralized alarm locations at 18 of 22 reactors that dwelling highly enriched uranium under the $14 million project called the Global Research Reactor Security program. The outstanding four reactors are planned to be upgraded by the end of 2010.
The Government Accountability Office said in the inspection that while most advanced facilities now meet up guidelines outlined by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The program is part of a superior US effort to secure vulnerable nuclear material all over the world, including with a project to eliminate highly enriched uranium from some of the most vulnerable facilities and have it turned into a safer form of nuclear fuel. In one such type of operation earlier this year, the agency removed sufficient material from Romania to build two atomic bombs.
Tierney, Democrat of Salem, replied to the latest findings by saying that he is encouraged by the effort so far, but that “progress is not enough - we need results.’’
