Uranium levels 62 times higher than normal

The report from Germany that exposed uranium presence in hair samples of mentally-retard kids was made public by Dr Carin Smit at the Baba Farid Centre for particular Children on Sunday. The information reveals that 87% of children below 12 years and 82% beyond that age have uranium levels high enough to cause diseases, said Dr Amar Singh Azad, a pediatrician with the special kids’ centre.

Pointing out levels of container, lead, aluminium, manganese and iron in the specimens, centre incharge Dr Pritpal Singh added, “We had suspected the presence of heavy metals even before samples were sent for testing but had never imagined uranium.” While radioactive count in water being addicted is five to eight times more than the permissible limit, the reports reveals uranium levels as 62, 44 and 27 times higher than normal in sample of three kids from Kotkapura and Fairdkot.

“Even hair of seven hale and hearty persons from the region shows uranium traces up to 20 to 30 times higher,” said Azad. For the last few decades, dangerous toxic agricultural inputs in the form of pesticide and fertilizers, some of which already banned in a few countries, are being used indiscriminately and without any scientific evidence of their need. Most of these aren’t easily biodegradable.
