Interesting issues--The origin and the basic things about the Uranium

How does Uranium evolved?

Uranium was discovered in 1789 by Martin Klaproth, a German chemist, who isolated an oxide of uranium while analyzing the pitchblende samples from the Joachim Sal silver mines in the former Kingdom of Bohemia located in the present day Czech Republic.

Abundance of Uranium & arrival of its name

Uranium was named after the planet Uranus discovered in the year of 1791 and it is the naturally occurring element which ranks 48th among the most abundant elements found in natural crust rock. Uranium is also 40 times more naturally abundant than silver.

Quantity & price of Uranium

One pound of uranium will make a small ball say only 1.3 inches in diameter i.e. make an "OK" sign with your forefinger and thumb to see how big that ball would be. The price of uranium was approximately $10.75 per pound in the year of 2003. By the mid 2006, the price had risen approximately to $45.00 per pound. In the beginning of 2007 the price approached $100.00 per pound.

Discovery of Uranium Fissionability & Radioactivity

It took until 1938 to discover that uranium can be split to release energy that which is fissionable. This was skilled by Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassman and Henri Antoine Becquerel discovered that uranium was radioactive in the year of 1896.
